Um, hi!

That’s right. I’m going to write a blog post here and act like nothing ever happened. Like it hasn’t been over a year since I wrote my last post on the Spoon. Like I’ve been reviewing away for the past 12 months.

Well, actually, I’m not. Why ignore the lovely, Charlotte-restaurant-scene-shaped elephant in the room? I haven’t been writing Charlotte restaurant reviews for the past year because instead, I’ve been cooking, baking, and sharing the results to inspire other home cooks to take on their own challenges. All of this kitchen fun is going on over at Willow Bird Baking.

That being said, I still take pictures of all my restaurant meals. I still feel a burning desire to tell you about it. So, with a slight format change to make this manageable as I run another full-time blog, that’s what I’m going to do. Thanks for sticking with me through the transition!

Charlotte Restaurant Week!

It’s that time again! Queen’s Feast Charlotte Restaurant Week will be Friday, July 10 through Sunday, July 19, 2009. This is the week where many upscale restaurants offer a $30 prix fixe meal. Visit the website to see participating restaurants, scan their menus, and make your reservations!

Also, please feel free to recommend great places from the list for me and Mike! We always have trouble choosing.

Coffee Cup Sighting in NoDa!

Faithful readers,

First, apologies for the delay in postings. My day job is getting in the way of my night-or-weekend-or-whenever-I-have-ten-minutes job! I promise updates soon! I have a delectable Thai restaurant tournament waiting to be posted.

I just wanted to tune in for a moment and tell you about a fantastic development in the Coffee Cup saga. As you may know, the restaurant unfortunately closed late last year and owner Gardine Wilson seemed very pessimistic about the possibility of reopening. Something must have changed, though, because the Coffee Cup is indeed open in NoDa! This is fantastic news for me and Mike, who will be visiting soon. If you didn’t get a chance to try it before, swoop in and be thankful you didn’t miss out altogether.

Incidentally, Addie’s Jamaican Cuisine (which was also in NoDa) closed its doors, but you know, with that service . . . it’s really no surprise. Sorry to lose the red beans and rice, though.

Reviews soon!

Coming Monday

Drum roll, please! Coming Monday, it’s what you’ve all been waiting for. You’ve been holding your breath wondering when it’s going to happen. You’ve been watching the spoons in suspense. Well, readers, your wait is almost over. Coming Monday: the first negative review on The Charlotte Spoon!

Check back Monday to see what restaurant “earned” the “honor.”

Upcoming reviews!

Hi there Charlotte Spooners! You may have noticed that it’s been longer than usual since my last review. Don’t worry; I’m still eating my way around Charlotte! Funny story, though: I broke the “L” key on my keyboard, and writing an entire review while copying and pasting my L’s is a little too daunting for me! Never fear, though, because my new keyboard was shipped out yesterday.

Upcoming reviews to look forward to (tell me which ones you’re most excited about!):

  • The Coffee Cup
  • Intermezzo Cafe and Pizzeria
  • Lulu’s
  • Aladdin’s Cafe
  • The Chain Review: Tijuana Flats, Five Guys
  • A BONUS Mama Ricotta’s post (yes, Mike and I went back! And it was even better this time!

Charlotte Restaurant Week

Dearest food lovers, Charlotte Restaurant Week starts TOMORROW, July 12th and runs through July 18th. Some of Charlotte’s classiest restaurants are offering a three course meal for only $30 (not including tax and gratuity). Some restaurants have a set menu and others offer several choices. Participants include Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse, Del Frisco’s Double Eagle Steak House, The Palm, Zebra, M5, and Pewter Rose among others.

To see the full list of restaurants, the menus they’re offering, and to make reservations, go to the Charlotte Restaurant Week website. Mike and I just made reservations at Fiamma, an Italian restaurant I’ve been eager to try. Expect a review!

Welcome to The Charlotte Spoon!

The Charlotte Spoon is a fancy new blog (because the internet is severely lacking in blogs) that chronicles my eating adventures in the many fantastic restaurants of Charlotte, NC. Apart from the vital stats (cost in real dollars instead of a cryptic dollar sign scale, location, appropriate dress), you’ll get impressions, photographs, and lots of effusive gushing from a (non-snooty but knowledgeable) food lover and writer.

Thanks for reading, offering your comments and opinions, and throwing links to this blog around the world wide web! I appreciate it, as will the restaurants reviewed here (well, unless they sucked, but that’s not my fault, now is it?).
